Football might not be coming home (yes, we had to go there), but a soaked bunch of Supporters Club strollers were on Saturday afternoon, when they completed the sponsored walk.
The rain started from the moment they left the start point in Peacehaven until about 20 minutes from home at The Dripping Pan, but spirits weren’t dampened – unlike the floor of the Abergavenny Arms in Rodmell, which was the halfway house for our trench-foot suffering hikers.
The route – expertly plotted by club president, Terry Parris – took our walking waterbags through Teslcombe, down into Rodmell, and along the river Ouse. Had they chosen to swim down the river, our team would not have arrived back at the Pan any less wet. Don’t even ask about Richard and Elle Irving’s sausage rolls.
Still, the wrinkled fingers and toes were by no means in vain. Although Treaurer Al is still busy totting up all the generous donations, it looks like we’ve raised around £1,500 – all of which will be put to good use improving facilities for supporters around the club. We even got to christen the new Supporters Club-built beer garden!
A huge thank you to everyone who took part and the generous sponsors. We’re hoping to make this an annual event, and we’re hoping for better weather next time…
