In case you forgot, yesterday was Valentine’s Day. Although given the video “highlights” from last week’s drubbing against Folkestone only went up yesterday, I wonder if someone in the club’s media department thought it was Halloween. (Or if they’ve finally paid the bill.)
The video highlights for this game are already on YouTube too (embedded below for the masochists), so we won’t spend much time poring over the gory details. A wonder strike from Devonte West aside, there’s not much to look back fondly on.
The post-match interviews were full of talk about the players not doing “the basics”, but Pitts has to take some responsibility for the team selection. You can’t expect a Nunn to score on Valentine’s Day, for Christ’s sake.
The Nunn in question was George Nunn, another new signing who made his debut yesterday. He was no less than the 40th first-team player we’ve used this season. I know we’ve had a management change midway through the season, but that’s still an awful lot of players. So much so, the Supporters Club maintenance team are fitting a revolving door on the changing rooms this Thursday.
Talking of incomings, I read Chairman Trev’s notes in the Progcast for yesterday’s game, stating that “if we could grow average gates to 1,500 this would be a game changer for our club”. If there are many more home performances like the last two, the game changer would be reversing the turnstiles and charging people to get out!
Looking on the bright side, that horrible run of fixtures against three of the top four is over, and Pitts and the boys have got a clear week on the training field before we head up to Cheshunt and then Whitehawk next week. It’s an evening game at Whitehawk, so there’s every chance the floodlights won’t last the full 90 if we’re behind in that one. Remember to charge the batteries in your headlamps.
Lewes: Rogers, Bernal, Hamstead, Christian-Law, Kpakpe, Allen (Bassett), Muirhead, Janneh (Abdsami), West, Roberts, Nunn (Edwards)
Unused subs: Walker, Jenkins
Supporters Club man of the match: Devonte West. Scored a belter and looked a threat throughout.
