Lewes 4 vs Bognor Regis Town 1 AND Lewes 0 vs AFC Totton 2: A double helping

Gregg Wallace: Welcome to Masterchef. Your first challenge this week is being set by my good friend, Marcus.

Marcus Wareing: I want you to cook up a South Coast classic. Something that lingers long in the memory. You’ve got 90 minutes, off you go.

Gregg: That’s it. Stop! Time’s up. Step away from the pitch and let’s see what our judges think.

Monica Galetti: It’s a great dish. I was little bit worried for a while there. You seemed to be trying very hard but not making much progress, but it all came together in the final ten minutes. Well done.

Marcus: It’s a superb piece of cooking. Hits you straight away with that little fizz of Italian, but then you get that powerful punch of the Full English late on, with little Italian trimmings at the end. There were one or two mistakes in there, but overall a lovely main course.

Gregg: Ha, ha, ha. Mate! I can’t stop smiling. I love the way you’ve battered the Bognor. I’d happily scoff that every night of the week. Can’t wait to see what you deliver in the next round.

Gregg: Well done for making it to the second round. But before you can even think about getting your hands on the Trophy, here’s a challenge that’s been set by Monica.

Monica: This is an invention test. We’re taking you out of your comfort zone and seeing how you work with unfamiliar ingredients from the Hampshire region. You’ve got 90 minutes to come up with a winning recipe. Off you go.

Gregg: Right, that’s it. Time’s up. Let’s see what you’ve come up with.

Marcus: This one’s not working for me, I’m afraid. It’s a bit gristly, the passes are over-cooked, it’s a shame you’ve had to leave out the Italian as that would have brought something extra to the dish.

Monica: I agree with Marcus. It’s chewy, lacking in spice. Could maybe do with a shot of something to liven it up, a bit more sizzle in The Pan. The ingredients are solid and I can see you’ve put in plenty of effort, but it just hasn’t come together.

Gregg: Oh, mate. I’m sorry, but I’m struggling to finish that. And I think we all know you’re up against some Premier League opposition out there…

Gregg: We’ve made our decision and, as you know, one of you is leaving the competition.

Gregg: The team leaving us is… Lewes. Good effort, boys. Sorry to see you go. There’s always the Sussex Senior.
