Lewes Legends: David Wheeler

David Wheeler played 90 games for Lewes as a teenager, and used this as a springboard into the pro game.

A Lewes boy through and through, he’s always retained a key interest in the club and follows our progress as a club, despite going on to greater things.

He left Lewes to join Staines Town in 2010, making over 100 appearances and scoring 22 goals. His consistent performances earned him the Players’ Player of the Year award for the 2011–2012 season.

Wheeler’s break into the Football League came in 2013 when he signed with Exeter City, a League Two side, where he made more than 160 appearances.

In August 2017, Wheeler made the step up to the Championship by signing a three-year contract with Queens Park Rangers. Loan spells at Portsmouth and MK Dons followed, before he made the move to Wycombe Wanderers, helping the club to reach The Championship for the first time in the club’s history.
