Volunteer co-ordinator Jan Gormley is the beating heart of women’s matchdays.
Jan appears to have an average speed of around 20mph, constantly buzzing around the ground to check volunteers are in place, that supporters are enjoying themselves, that everything is running as smoothly as it should. If someone strapped a dynamo to Jan, you would generate enough electricity to power the floodlights for a season.
She does all this with a near-permanent smile on her face. You couldn’t ask for a more welcoming presence.
She’s especially good at making young supporters welcome at The Pan, ushering mascots into position before the game starts, handing out posters on which they can collect signatures, and ensuring that young supporters have the best possible experience.

And when it’s all over, there’s Jan at the top of the Philcox, thanking everyone for coming and looking forward to seeing them again soon.
Jan’s effervescent presence is undoubtedly one reason why many women’s supporters do indeed return time and again.
