Oxford Utd 2 vs Lewes 0: The writing on the wall

So I perhaps built this one up a bit too much, writes Mike Wallis. You know, fifth is good! Fourth would’ve been better but fifth is still good.

I realise the result may have been my fault, four defeats from the four away games I’ve been to this season. I’ll try not to go to as many next season!

After a quite sedate 20 minutes or so, Oxford went ahead through some combination of Emily Moore, the bar and their centre forward.

Oxford doubled their lead early in the second half in similar fashion, Moore tipping the ball onto the bar and the ball ended up in the net from the scramble that followed. The PA announcer had no idea who’d scored.

Lewes had a few chances: Howells dragged one wide, Banaras hit a shot so high we lost sight of it but dropped just onto the roof of the net, Ferguson went clean through but saw her shot saved by Wookey in the Oxford goal.

So a bit of an anticlimax then. Fifth place, top half even is a really good finish for what is a really good team.

Either way this was a fun trip. Pan gardener Lou made her first trip to both a motorway Service station and to a Greggs; Ruby Seaby’s dad won an Oxford United scarf in the world’s longest raffle; and I’m currently writing this whilst Sinclair figures out how to charge his new car in a car park somewhere near Oxford.

I had lunch in a hipstery pizza place in Oxford Covered Market and whilst I was waiting for my pizza to arrive I contributed to their graffiti wall.

Lewes: Moore, Trewhitt (Ginger), Priest, Edwards (Kaluya), Brant, Schreimaier (Rowe), Howells, Banaras, Lane, Ferguson, Seaby.
