We’ll be holding our next Supporters Club meeting on Monday 21st September at 7:30pm in the Rook Inn.

This meeting will start with an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), a rather highfalutin term for a short part of the otherwise blissfully informal gathering, in which we’re going to ask you to approve changes to our upcoming elections in January 2027.

Under our rules, we need 20 people to attend this part of the meeting, so if you can join us, even if only for the start of the meeting and even if only online, it would be much appreciated.

Why do you want to change the election rules?

Under our current election system, the seven positions on the Supporters Club committee are put up for re-election every year and the currently elected officials have to re-stand if they wish to continue.

Feedback we’ve received from previous elections is this makes people reluctant to stand for the committee, because they’re effectively running against a specific individual who they don’t necessarily want to unseat. We want to remove this disincentive.

How are you proposing to change the rules?

We want to move to a system that is very similar to Lewes FC’s board elections. Candidates will simply stand to join the committee, not for a specific role. Once elected, the new committee will decide amongst themselves who will fulfil the committee roles.

For the 2027 elections, we’re proposing to add an eighth committee position, namely that of Maintenance Manager. A large part of what the Supporters Club does is managing volunteers who help with maintenance at The Dripping Pan and this new role (somewhat belatedly) reflects that.

We will also add four new committee positions that carry no specific portfolio/title, but who will assist the other committee members. This is designed to attract candidates who want to be part of the committee but don’t have a specific skill set that fits neatly into the existing roles.

That, as the sharp mathematicians will have gathered by now, increases the size of the Supporters Club committee to 12 people.

That is, frankly, a lot of positions to fill on an annual basis, so we’re also proposing to extend terms to two years. That means for 2027, we propose that the current six committee members will remain in place, with six new positions to be elected. Every year thereafter, we will have six positions up for election, unless committee members decide to stand down, creating further vacancies.

What if I don’t agree with changing the election rules?

That’s fine. Come to the EGM and register your vote. If a majority of Supporters Club members are not in favour of change, we stick with the current system. That’s democracy.

Just one more thing…

Making these changes requires us to amend both our election policy and the Supporters Club constitution. The proposed new documents for both are found below.
